The Second NASA/NOAA Suomi NPP Applications Workshop

Background: The Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership (S-NPP) is a NASA/NOAA mission launched on October 28, 2011. S-NPP continues the NASA EOS science mission and is now NOAA’s primary weather satellite. At the three-year mark of its mission, both NASA and NOAA have validated the S-NPP instruments’ superior accuracy over their predecessors and have demonstrated a variety of applications for weather forecasting and disaster response and management. The S-NPP instruments also have the potential to support applications for ecological forecasting, air quality and public health, and water resources management. Since the first S-NPP applications workshop was held in June 2012, the promotion of applications has continued and the second workshop will encourage further engagement with the user communities.

Purpose:

Update the Earth science and applications communities on Suomi NPP including:

• Instrument performance
• Data Characteristics
• Access to data and data products from NASA and NOAA.

Review current applications from all S-NPP instruments and present new ideas.

Provide an opportunity for community feedback to NASA and NOAA on data products, data access and other user needs through Q&A sessions with presenters and breakout discussion sessions.

Intended audience: Earth observation data users and end users in the science and applied science communities and all sectors – government, commercial, non-government organizations and academia.

Poster Presentations: Registered attendees are welcome to submit a poster title and brief abstract for review and presentation. Presented posters can be no larger than 72 inches in width and 60 inches in height. The committee will strive to include as many posters as possible during the workshop.

Cost: No registration fee, but attendance limited to 150 participants. This conference is listed as number 20938-15: Second Suomi NPP Applications Workshop within the NASA Conference Tracking System (NCTS).
